Engendro

Another post for you to remember that Engendro has her own Facebook page. You will welcome there too.

Inspiration...Style (II) // Inspiración...Estilo (II) ENGENDRO

I am pinpointing the style of my artwork bit by bit, but I can speak rather of styles, plural.

Here you can find other illustrations, fashion figurines inspired , but with a personal touch that comes from my desire to find / create a character that identifies me: Engendro.

Engendro wasn´t born only for this purpose, but also reflects my taste for fashion.

I can also say that Engendro is inspired by one of the world's most versatile faces of fashion, Lily Cole.

But, why the name of Engendro? Engendro in Spanish means engender, create but it also has negative meanings as freak, monster, ugly... Once I made a first sketch, the origin of Engendro, it was so far from what I've always done and I did not like it. For me it was an ugly creature, but it was my own creation so I decided to improve it so I kept developing it, keeping the name of Engendro.

Saludos,
Alberto.

In this new post I come to speak about the style of my artwork. This is directly related to inspiration.

Some people already know  Blythe doll, others not, so I will tell you some of it for you to understand  why do I draw bigheaded, bigeyed dolls.

Blythe was born in America in 1972, designed by Allison Katzman and produced by the toy company Kenner. Its image might suggest that is inspired by the artistic movement "Big Eyes", whose maximum exponent is Margaret Keane.

It was a doll ahead of its time due its bizarre image and mechanism by which you can change look (left, right and center) and eye color (typically blue and green on the sides,  orange and pink on the front).

1972 is also the year of its retirement to the darkness due its lack of success.

Later, in the late 90s, Gina Garan, audiovisual producer and photographer, Newyorker, received one of these dolls as a gift and used it as her model, publishing in 2000 her first book  in wich Blythe was the shining protagonist (This is Blythe). This way, Blythe becomes a phenomenon in internet, creating a subculture that moves millions, both in dollars and in creativity.

After introducing this doll a bit, I share with you  a collage in which you can see not only Blythe, but some of my artwork inspired in this doll .

I hope you like.

Kind regards,

Alberto.
